Moving Your Loved One into an Assisted Living Facility

An assisted living facility is a great place for aging seniors who need a little help with their day-to-day activities, like taking medications, bathing and completing daily grooming routines. While this may seem great for your elderly loved one, do they qualify?

Palm Cottages’ Assisted Living Requirements and Restrictions

At Palm Cottages, our clinical team, along with the resident’s primary care physician, will complete an assessment to determine if the potential resident’s needs can be met by our facility. Our residents are required to participate in their care but may still need assistance or supervision with activities for daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming and medication management. Residents must eat daily meals in the shared dining space of their cottage and should participate in some social activities throughout the month.

Some care requirements may exceed Palm Cottages’ state licensing; it is important to discuss all needs at the time of the assessment so the best care plan can be determined.

We also offer memory care services for those with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Potential residents for these cottages would undergo the same assessment. Often, residents of these cottages benefit from the extra security of the locked doors to deter wandering. Other residents benefit from the higher care staffing ratio, allowing even more attention and time to provide services for each resident.

After Your Tour of Palm Cottages

After you tour with the administrative team at Palm Cottages and decide our facility would be the best fit, we will have a member of our clinical team schedule a time to screen the potential resident and discuss the care needed to confirm that they will be appropriate for our community.

Once the placement is approved, the clinical staff at Palm Cottages will connect with the resident’s primary care physician to confirm the medically required care and complete state-required documentation prior to a scheduled move-in.
